Here is a picture I painted with Mitchell Morton. He had a photograph in which we painted from. Personally, I really like this picture. The subject and the colors go well together.
A short critique that will help you with shadows Dean... Notice the shadows are purple on the yellow ground... there would be elements of purple in the shadows playing on the compliment to yellow theme but the best way to treat it would be to use a darker version of yellow with elements of purple in it for the shadow area in this case. In some school of thought for this technique shadows are simply a darker version of the area (color) they are on with a hint of the compliment to that color in it. This is not a rule or the only way but it works and reads well in a painting. Hope this makes sense.
